The promotion of antiquarian books

We have taken part in several initiatives to promote antiquarian books, most notably our participation in various Porto Book Fairs, with particular emphasis on the 1994 edition, where we presented a set of medieval parchments of fundamental importance to the history of the city, now part of the collection of the Porto City Council Historical Archive.
In collaboration with Livraria Académica and Livraria Esquina, Livraria Manuel Ferreira was part of the Organising Committee of the 3rd International Antiquarian Book Fair — “Porto ’95”, held at the Dr. António Cupertino de Miranda Foundation in 1995. This event led to the formal establishment of the Portuguese Association of Antiquarian Booksellers.
As part of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the publication of Mensagem by Fernando Pessoa, Livraria Manuel Ferreira published a new edition of the poet’s major work, in facsimile of the original and in miniature format. A total of 300 copies were printed in two print runs, with a special edition limited to 75 copies, numbered and signed, housed in a wooden box and accompanied by an engraving by Alberto Péssimo.
In 1996, it published a facsimile edition of the extremely rare original of Sonetos by Antero de Quental, accompanied by an unpublished portrait of the poet in serigraphy by the sculptor José Rodrigues.
In collaboration with Alberto de Serpa and Paulo Samuel, Livraria Manuel Ferreira began its publishing activity in 1993 with the joint publication of two works: Evocação de José Régio and Alberto de Serpa.
